Eine Waffel wurde berühmt verwendet, um Präsident Bill Clinton im Doonesbury-Comic zu vertreten. Der Begriff "Waffel" bezeichnet Unentschlossenheit über bestimmte Themen; "Waffeln" kann auch bedeuten, sich in einem Thema zu ändern. Beispiel: "Craig immer Waffeln, wenn er mit Genevieve am Telefon spricht". Worauf Genevieve in der Regel antwortet: "Komm schon Craig, komm raus!".
