Weimar
Weimar ist eine Stadt im Bundesland Thüringen. Es liegt zwischen Erfurt im Westen und Jena im Osten, etwa 80 Kilometer südwestlich von Leipzig, 170 Kilometer nördlich von Nürnberg und 170 Kilometer westlich von Dresden. Gemeinsam mit den Nachbarstädten Erfurt und Jena bildet sie mit rund 500.000 Einwohnern die zentrale Metropolregion Thüringen, während die Stadt selbst 65.000 Einwohner zählt. Weimar ist bekannt wegen seines großen kulturellen Erbes und seiner Bedeutung in der deutschen Geschichte. Die Stadt war ein Schwerpunkt der deutschen Aufklärung und Heimat der Hauptfiguren des literarischen Gattungs des Weimarer Klassizismus, der Schriftsteller Johann Wolfgang von Goethe und Friedrich Schiller. Im 19. Jahrhundert machten berühmte Komponisten wie Franz Liszt ein Musikzentrum von Weimar und später kamen Künstler und Architekten wie Henry van de Velde, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Lyonel Feininger und Walter Gropius in die Stadt und gründeten die Bauhausbewegung Wichtigste deutsche Designschule der Zwischenkriegszeit.
