Der Weltrat der Kirchen ist eine interkirchliche Organisation, die 1948 gegründet wurde. Zu seinen Mitgliedern gehören heute die meisten christlichen Kirchen, aber nicht die katholische Kirche, die akkreditierte Beobachter zu Treffen schickt. Es entstand aus der ökumenischen Bewegung und hat als Grundlage die folgende Aussage: "Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen ist ein Stipendium der Kirchen, die den Herrn Jesus Christus als Gott und Erlöser nach den Schriften bekennen und daher versuchen, gemeinsam ihre gemeinsamen zu erfüllen Ruft zur Herrlichkeit des einen Gottes, des Vaters, des Sohnes und des Heiligen Geistes. " Der ÖRK beschreibt sich als "eine weltweite Gemeinschaft von 349 globalen, regionalen und subregionalen, nationalen und lokalen Kirchen, die Einheit suchen, ein gemeinsames Zeugnis und ein christlicher Dienst". Es basiert auf dem Ökumenischen Zentrum in Genf, Schweiz. Die Organisationsmitglieder beinhalten Konfessionen, die behaupten, gemeinsam 590 Millionen Menschen auf der ganzen Welt in ca. 150 Länder, darunter 520.000 örtliche Gemeinden von 493.000 Pfarrern und Priestern, zusätzlich zu Ältesten, Lehrer, Mitglieder der Pfarrgemeinden und andere.
