Amphisbaenie
Amphisbaenie ist eine Gruppe von meist legless squamates, die über 180 vorhandene Arten umfasst. Amphisbaener zeichnen sich durch lange Körper, Reduktion oder Verlust der Gliedmaßen und rudimentäre Augen aus. Da viele Arten eine rosa Körperfärbung und Schuppen besitzen, die in Ringen angeordnet sind, haben sie eine oberflächliche Ähnlichkeit mit Regenwürmern. Alle sind gläubig, außer für Bipes, die forelimbs behält. Obwohl oberflächlich ähnlich wie die Schlangen und Dibamidae, zeigen die jüngsten phylogenetischen Studien, dass sie am engsten mit den Lacertidae verwandt sind. Amphisbaener sind weit verbreitet, in Nordamerika, Europa, Afrika, Südamerika und der Karibik. Die meisten Arten sind weniger als 6 Zoll lang. Wenig ist von ihnen außerhalb ihrer Anatomie bekannt, und selbst das ist schwer zu studieren wegen der Mechanik der Sezierung solcher Kleintiere.
