Ulmus glabra
Ulmus glabra, die Wych Ulme oder Schotten Ulme, hat die breiteste Palette der europäischen Ulmenarten, von Irland nach Osten bis zum Ural und vom Polarkreis südlich bis zu den Bergen des Peloponnes in Griechenland; Es findet sich auch im Iran. Ein großer, laubwechselnder Baum, es handelt sich im Wesentlichen um eine montane Spezies, die bei Erhebungen und 1500 m wächst, bevorzugen Standorte mit feuchten Böden und hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit. Der Baum kann in Skandinavien reine Wälder bilden und tritt so weit nach Norden als Breite 67 ° N bei Beiarn in Norwegen auf. Wych Ulme wurde auch erfolgreich in Narsarsuaq, in der Nähe der südlichen Spitze von Grönland eingeführt. Der Baum war bei weitem die häufigste Ulme im Norden und Westen der Britischen Inseln und wird heute als die einzige unbestreitbar britische heimische Ulmenart anerkannt. Wegen seiner früheren Fülle in Schottland ist der Baum gelegentlich als die Scotch oder Scots Ulme bekannt. Eng verwandte Arten, wie Bergmanns Elm U. bergmanniana und Mandschurei Elm U. laciniata, gebürtig nach Nordostasien, waren einmal in Ulmus glabra eingeschlossen; Ein weiterer enger Verwandter ist der Himalaya oder Kaschmir Elm U. wallichiana.
