Es kann auch verwendet werden, um die Genauigkeit in der Atomabsorptionsspektroskopie zu verbessern. Eine Theorie über den magnetischen Sinn der Vögel geht davon aus, dass ein Protein in der Netzhaut durch den Zeeman-Effekt verändert wird. Wenn die Spektrallinien Absorptionslinien sind, wird der Effekt inverser Zeeman-Effekt genannt.
