Zeolith
Zeolithe sind mikroporöse, Aluminosilikatmineralien, die üblicherweise als kommerzielle Adsorbentien und Katalysatoren verwendet werden. Der Begriff Zeolith wurde ursprünglich 1756 von der schwedischen Mineralogistin Axel Fredrik Cronstedt geprägt, die beobachtete, dass bei rascher Erhitzung des materiellen Stilbits große Mengen an Dampf aus Wasser, das durch das Material adsorbiert worden war, produziert wurde. Daraufhin rief er den materiellen Zeolith aus dem griechischen ζέω an und bedeutete "zu kochen" und λίθος, was bedeutet "Stein". Zeolithe kommen natürlich vor, werden aber auch industriell in großem Maßstab hergestellt. Ab Oktober 2012 wurden 206 einzigartige Zeolith-Gerüste identifiziert und über 40 natürlich vorkommende Zeolith-Gerüste sind bekannt.
