In der Spieltheorie und der ökonomischen Theorie ist ein Nullsummenspiel eine mathematische Darstellung einer Situation, in der der Nutzen eines Teilnehmers durch die Verluste des Nutzenes des anderen Teilnehmers exakt ausgeglichen wird. Wenn die Gesamtgewinne der Teilnehmer addiert werden und die Gesamtverluste subtrahiert werden, werden sie auf Null summieren. So schneidet ein Kuchen, wo ein größeres Stück reduziert die Menge an Kuchen für andere, ist ein Null-Summe-Spiel, wenn alle Teilnehmer Wert jeder Einheit des Kuchens gleichermaßen. Im Gegensatz dazu beschreibt die Nicht-Nullsumme eine Situation, in der die aggregierten Gewinne und Verluste der interagierenden Parteien entweder kleiner als oder mehr als Null sind. Ein Nullsummen-Spiel wird auch als streng konkurrenzfähiges Spiel bezeichnet, während Nicht-Null-Summe-Spiele entweder wettbewerbsfähig oder nicht-konkurrenzfähig sein können. Zero-Summe-Spiele werden am häufigsten mit dem Minimax-Theorem gelöst, das eng mit der linearen Programmier-Dualität oder mit dem Nash-Gleichgewicht zusammenhängt.
