비오틴, 비오스Ⅱ 또는 코엔자임 R과 동일물임. 사람을 포함한 광범위한 동물에 필수적인 것이며, 장내에서 합성됨. 이것은 생란백(生卵白)의 단백질 avidin과 결합하여 불활성화되므로 결핍증의 증상(症狀)은 생란백(가열하지 않은 것)을 줌으로서 발현됨.
