Paraffinblockparaffin wird imprägniert, um das Gewebe zu verfestigen. Es hat eine Härte bei Raumtemperatur und kann mit einem speziellen Messer auf eine Dicke von etwa 4 mm geschnitten werden. Dies wird als dünner Schnitt bezeichnet, mit einer Färbelösung gefärbt und unter einem Mikroskop betrachtet. Die mit Paraffin gehärteten Gewebe können semi-permanent konserviert werden, und neue Gewebeproben können nach Bedarf hergestellt werden. 파라핀ㆍ블록 파라핀을 침투시켜서 조직을 고형화한 것을 말한다. 상온에서는 경도가 있으며 특별한 나이프로 자르면 4㎛정도의 두께로 자를 수 있다. 이를 박절(薄切)이라고 하며, 염색액으로 염색해서 현미경하에서 보인다. 파라핀으로 굳힌 조직은 반영구적으로 보존이 가능하며, 필요에 따라서 추출해서 새로운 조직표본을 제작할 수 있다.
