In der Physik sind Basispartikel die grundlegendsten Partikel, die andere Partikel bilden. Ein Teil der Physik, die grundlegende Teilchen und ihre Wechselwirkungen studiert, ist Teilchenphysik. In dem Sinne, dass es die ultimative Einheit ist, die nicht mehr gebrochen werden kann, kann man sie als eine absolute Grundeinheit betrachten, aber es ist nicht sicher, ob die einfachste Einheit existiert. Historisch gesehen wurden Moleküle, Atome und Kerne als Grundteilchen betrachtet, aber neue Grundteilchen wurden immer vorgeschlagen, weil sie eine Struktur haben, die es ihnen ermöglicht, durch eine kleinere Teilchenkombination erklärt zu werden. Gegenwärtig sind die Basispartikel, die als Experiment die kleinste Einheit sind, Quark- und Lepton- und Gauge-Bosonen des Standardmodells. Allerdings gibt es einige Theorien, dass diese auch Strukturen haben.
