Keton
Ein an zwei Kohlenstoffatome gebundenes Kohlenstoffcarbonyl unterscheidet Ketone von Carbonsäuren, Aldehyden, Estern, Amiden und anderen Verbindungen, die Sauerstoff enthalten. Auf der anderen Seite unterscheidet die Doppelbindung der Carbonylgruppe Ketone von Alkohol und Ether. Die einfachsten Ketone sind Aceton, auch bekannt als Propan. Die Kohlenstoffatome, die sich neben der Carbonylgruppe befinden, werden α-Kohlenstoff genannt, während die an diesen Kohlenstoff gebundenen Wasserstoffatome α-Wasserstoff genannt werden. Mit der Anwesenheit von Säurekatalysatoren werden Ketone eine sogenannte Keto-Null-Tetration erfahren, wogegen starke Reaktionsreaktionen entsprechende Enolate erzeugen. Diketon ist eine Verbindung, die zwei Gruppen von Ketonen enthält.
