Das Kernkochen ist gekennzeichnet durch einen Anfall und einen gelösten warmen Schaum, der von einem klaren Punkt auf einer Oberfläche aufsteigt, deren Temperatur nur geringfügig höher ist als die Sättigungstemperatur der Flüssigkeit. Im Allgemeinen wird die Anzahl der Keimbildungsstellen durch die Erhöhung der Oberflächentemperatur erhöht.
