Rom
Rom ist die Hauptstadt Italiens und die größte und bevölkerungsreichste Stadt des Landes mit über 2,7 Millionen Einwohnern in einer Gemeinde von etwa 1.285,3 km2, während die städtische Bevölkerung von Eurostat auf 3,46 Millionen geschätzt wird. Nach Schätzungen der OECD hat Roms Metropolregion 3,7 Millionen Einwohner. Die Stadt liegt in der Mitte der Mitte der italienischen Halbinsel am Tiber. Rom wird auch oft mit der römisch-katholischen Kirche und ihrem Bischofsoberhaupt, dem Papst, in Verbindung gebracht. Eine römische Enklave ist das Königreich des Vatikans, das Hoheitsgebiet des Heiligen Stuhls und das kleinste Land der Welt. Als eine der wenigen europäischen Großstädte, die aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg überlebt haben, war Rom im Wesentlichen dasselbe wie Renaissance und Barock. Rom ist das am dritthäufigsten besuchte Touristenziel in der Europäischen Union, und das historische Zentrum gehört zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe. Wie eine moderne Stadt wurde sie seit 1870 zur Hauptstadt Italiens und wuchs vor allem in zwei Perioden auf der einen Seite des Zweiten Weltkriegs.
