A Conductus is a companion in the Discantus theorem. In addition to organum and motet, he was one of the most important musical genres of medieval music. With a Conductus, appearances were accompanied by acting persons, for example the coming in or out of spiritual dignitaries of a church. The Conductus was already established during the St. Martial School. Unlike other genera of the time, the Conductus did not exist as such after the Notre-Dame school, but went into other musical genres. The designation was only continued as a stylistic feature. The texts with both spiritual and secular content were based on Latin documents with a solemn and solemn character. They had the form of multi-stance poems whose composition was decisive for the composition. The singing was one- or multi-part, but the two-partedness prevailed. The singing was usually based on a tenor, the voice is mostly syllabic, but could also be melismatic at the stanza. The word is derived from the Latin words Con and ductus.

Ein Conductus ist ein Begleitgesang im Discantus-Satz. Er zählte neben Organum und Motette zu den wichtigsten Musikgattungen der Musik des Mittelalters. Mit einem Conductus wurden Auftritte von handelnden Personen begleitet, zum Beispiel das Herein- oder Herausschreiten geistlicher Würdenträger einer Kirche. Der Conductus entstand bereits während der St.-Martial-Schule. Anders als andere Gattungen jener Zeit existierte der Conductus nach der Notre-Dame-Schule als solcher nicht weiter, sondern ging in anderen Musikgattungen auf. Lediglich als Stilmerkmal wurde die Bezeichnung fortgeführt. Die Texte mit sowohl geistlichem als auch weltlichem Inhalt beruhten auf lateinischen Vorlagen mit ernstem und feierlichen Charakter. Sie hatten die Form mehrstrophiger Gedichte, deren Aufbau bestimmend für die Komposition war. Der Gesang war ein- oder mehrstimmig, allerdings überwiegte die Zweistimmigkeit. Meist lag dem Gesang ein Tenor zugrunde, die Stimme ist zumeist syllabisch, konnte am Strophenende aber auch melismatisch sein. Das Wort leitet sich von den lateinischen Worten Con und ductus ab.
