The Dulzian, also Dulcian or Dolcian is a wood-blowing instrument with direct-threaded double-tube blade and conical bore. The Dulzian was developed in the first half of the 16th century. It has the conical bore with the shawl, and the kinked, parallel bore with sordons and cortholes. Like many other instruments of the Renaissance, the Dulzian was built in families from soprano to double bass. The smaller instruments of the family down to the bass were usually made of a piece of wood, and then larger by two or three parts. For all Dulcianians, the reeds are placed on a brass S-bow. In the 17th century the small Dulzian forms lost their importance. While the baroque bassoon was developed from the Dulzian, the Bassdulzian was also used for a time. As a special case in Spain until the 19th century various sizes of the Dulzians were in use. Composers of early Sololiteratur are among others. Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde, Philipp Friedrich Böddecker, Giulio Mussi.

Der Dulzian, auch Dulcian oder Dolcian ist ein Holzblasinstrument mit direkt angeblasenem Doppelrohrblatt und konischer Bohrung. Der Dulzian wurde in der ersten Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts entwickelt. Er hat mit der Schalmei die konische Bohrung und mit Sordunen und Kortholten die geknickte, parallele Bohrung gemeinsam. Wie viele andere Instrumente der Renaissance wurde der Dulzian in Familien vom Sopran bis zum Kontrabass gebaut. Die kleineren Instrumente der Familie bis zum Bass wurden dabei gewöhnlich aus einem Stück Holz gefertigt, größere dann aus zwei oder drei Teilen. Bei allen Dulzianen steckt das Rohrblatt auf einem S-Bogen aus Messing. Im 17. Jahrhundert verloren die kleinen Dulzianformen an Bedeutung. Während das Barockfagott aus dem Dulzian entwickelt wurde, blieb daneben eine Zeit lang auch der Bassdulzian in Gebrauch. Als Sonderfall waren in Spanien bis ins 19. Jahrhundert verschiedene Größen des Dulzians in Gebrauch. Komponisten von früher Sololiteratur sind u.a. Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde, Philipp Friedrich Böddecker, Giulio Mussi.
