Highball is a cocktail category and is simply designed longdrinks, which serve primarily for thirsting and refreshing. The base syrup is always filled with soda or another carbonated beverage, the so-called Filler. The proportion of non-alcoholic ingredients predominates. Serving is always in a high beaker, Eg a longdrink or highball glass, usually with ice cubes and sparse decoration. The most original highball is presumably the "Scotch and Soda". In the 1950s the Moscow Mule gained some fame in the United States, 50 years later the Dark'n'Stormy. The classics Gin Tonic and Vodka Lemon also belong to the family of highballs. A special group is the New England Highballs, whose basalt pirituus is filled with cranberry juice instead of with soda or carbonated soft drinks. So the Cape Cod consists of vodka and cranberry juice. The Sea Breeze, derived from it, contains as a third ingredient grapefruit juice, a madras orange juice.

Highball ist eine Cocktail-Kategorie und bezeichnet einfach aufgebaute Longdrinks, die in erster Linie zum Durststillen und Erfrischen dienen. Die Basisspirituose wird hierbei immer mit Soda oder einem anderen kohlensäurehaltigen Getränk, dem sogenannten Filler, aufgefüllt. Der Anteil der nichtalkoholischen Zutaten überwiegt. Serviert wird immer in einem hohen Becherglas, z. B. einem Longdrink- oder Highballglas, zumeist mit Eiswürfeln und spärlicher Dekoration. Der ursprünglichste Highball ist vermutlich der „Scotch and Soda“. In den 1950er Jahren erlangte der Moscow Mule in den Vereinigten Staaten einige Bekanntheit, 50 Jahre später der Dark’n’Stormy. Auch die Klassiker Gin Tonic und Wodka Lemon zählen zur Familie der Highballs. Eine spezielle Gruppe bilden die New England Highballs, deren Basisspirituose statt mit Soda bzw. kohlensäurehaltigen Erfrischungsgetränken mit Cranberrysaft aufgefüllt werden. So besteht der Cape Cod aus Wodka und Cranberrysaft. Der davon abgeleitete Sea Breeze enthält als dritte Zutat Grapefruitsaft, ein Madras Orangensaft.
