In medicine, hypochromic erythrocytes are defined as red blood cells, the hemoglobin content of which is reduced compared to the normal case. For example, Eg as a result of an iron deficiency disease or a form of thalassemia. Accordingly, the color of the erythrocytes is less reddish than usual. The condition is also referred to as hypochromic anemia.

In der Medizin versteht man unter hypochromen Erythrozyten rote Blutkörperchen, deren Hämoglobingehalt im Vergleich zum Normalfall erniedrigt ist. Das kann z. B. infolge einer Eisenmangelerkrankung oder einer Form der Thalassämie der Fall sein. Dementsprechend ist die Farbe der Erythrozyten weniger rötlich als sonst. Der Zustand wird auch als hypochrome Anämie bezeichnet.
