Integument (botany)

Integument (Botanik)

The integuments are a part of the seed system of the seed plants. They are enveloping layers surrounding the nucellus. After fertilization, the integuments become the testa. The part of the seed shell, which originates from the inner integument, is called tegment. They leave a small opening, the micropyle free, through which the pollen lying on the scar with the pollen tube during fertilization grows.
