WHAT DOES MESSING MEAN IN GERMAN?
Brass
Brass is one of the most famous copper alloys. It is common to all Messingen castings or wrought alloys that their base is the metals copper and zinc, to which, depending on the required properties, further alloying metals are added in smaller proportions. The color of brass is mainly determined by the zinc content: with brass contents up to 20% brass is brownish to brownish reddish, with contents over 36% light yellow to almost white yellow. The processing properties of brass are significantly influenced by the proportions of lead or tin, the corrosion properties by nickel. Typical castings are cast iron and red bronze with a further alloy of lead. Other known copper alloys, which are not referred to as brasses, include, for example, bronze with tin, nickel silver, white tombak with arsenic, and silicon tomb with silicon as characteristic alloy metals, which also contain zinc, but to a lesser extent than in brasses.
