WHAT DOES OKAPI MEAN IN GERMAN?
okapi
The Okapi is a pair of hoofed animals from the giraffe family. More closely related to the giraffe than to other cloven-hoofed animals, it resembles in its body proportions rather typical ungulates than the giraffe. It is characterized by its contrasting color of red-brown, black and white as well as the comparatively long neck. The Okapi inhabits the rain forest in Central Africa and is classified by the IUCN as highly endangered. The Okapi is one of the last large mammals discovered by Europeans. As a very shy inhabitant of the rainforest, it is only partially explored.
