Polyaddition is a polyreaction which forms polymers by means of individual mutually independent addition reactions. Polyaddition takes place as a step-growth reaction via molecules with low degrees of polymerization, ie dimers, trimers and oligomers, which form new adducts. The polymer is formed only at approximately complete conversions, as in the case of polycondensation and in contrast to chain polymerization. Polyaddition can only take place if the monomers carry two or more functional groups. The products of polyaddition are called polyadducts. Polyaddition is not synonymous with the English term "addition polymerization".

Polyaddition ist eine Polyreaktion, die über einzelne voneinander unabhängige Additionsreaktionen Polymere bildet. Polyaddition erfolgt als Stufenwachstumsreaktion über Moleküle mit niedrigen Polymerisationsgraden, also Dimere, Trimere und Oligomere, die untereinander neue Addukte bilden. Erst bei annähernd vollständigen Umsätzen bildet sich das Polymer, wie bei der Polykondensation und im Gegensatz zur Kettenpolymerisation. Eine Polyaddition kann nur erfolgen, wenn die Monomere zwei oder mehr funktionelle Gruppen tragen. Die Produkte der Polyaddition werden Polyaddukte genannt. Polyaddition ist nicht synonym mit dem englischen Begriff „addition polymerization“.
