WHAT DOES PSEPHIT MEAN IN GERMAN?

psephite

Psephite is the name for coarse sedimentary rocks with grain sizes above 2 mm. According to the geotechnical grain size classification, this corresponds to the peaks of gravel as well as conglomerates and breccias. The term can be used independently of material, H. Not only for clastic silicate rocks, but also for clastic carbonate rocks. However, the term lime psephite finds almost no use. In carbonpetrography, a limestone of this grain size is referred to as limestone. In the case of a metamorphosis, psephites receive the prefix meta-, they become metapsephites. The coarse-grained starting material comes from the mechanical destruction of other rocks. This happens, for example, by frost bombardment on rock walls and blocks, so that the fragments accumulate as rocky debris in debris or blockpiles. By means of transport, sharp-edged rock fragments are converted into rubble. In addition to the gross pseudo-psephite, finely divided pelites and medium-sized sedimentary rocks with a grain size of 0.02-2 mm are distinguished.
