Qi

Qi

The Chinese term Qì (Chinese 氣 / 气, Pinyin qì, IPA (high-Chinese), W.-G. Ch'i), also known as Ch'i, in Japan as Ki (Japanese 気) and Korea as Gi, Means energy, breath or fluid, but can literally mean air, gas (in chemistry / physics), steam, breath, ether as well as temperament, force or atmosphere. In addition, Qi describes the emotions of man and, according to modern Daoist conception, also stands for the activity of the neurohormonal system. Qi is a central concept of Daoism. The term is already found in the 42nd chapter of Daodejing; The Daoist philosopher Zhuangzi described the cosmos as consisting of Qi. In addition, the idea of Qi is the ideal foundation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and the so-called inner martial arts. The concept of the Qi still characterizes the world understanding of many people in Asia and increasingly also in the West and has significance for different religions. In an adapted form, the concept associated with the term has been used since the 19th century. Der chinesische Begriff (chinesisch 氣 / 气, Pinyin , IPA (hochchinesisch), W.-G.
