WHAT DOES CHLORINITY MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Chlorinity

The chlorinity of water is defined as the mass of chlorine equivalent to the total mass of halogen contained in 1 kg seawater. It is determined by the Mohr-Knudsen titration, which however neglects fluoride. The halogen concentration of sea water can be expressed in terms of chlorosity which is the number of grams of chloride and chloride equivalents to the bromide in one liter of sea water at 20 °C. Chlorinity is related to chlorosity as: Chlorinity = chlorosity/density of the sample. Chorinity is related to salinity as: Salinity = 1.80655 x chlorinity. It was originally defined as 0.03 + 1.805 x chlorinity in 1901, but was redefined in 1967 to a formula which removed the anomaly of salinity without chlorinity. The "chlorinity constant" 1.80655 can be recalled by the mnemonic "I suffered no Baltic water today" with the "no" understood as zero. This embeds the sub-phrase "no Baltic water" as a reminder that it does not apply to the Baltic and other estuaries...
