Coturnix

Coturnix is a genus of Old World quail, related Francolins and Alectoris Partridges. Coturnix and the aforementioned genera belong to their own monophyletic clade, the Gallusininae, a sub-family within the family Phasianidae. Some authors consider the clade that includes francolin, junglefowl, long-billed partridge, Chinese bamboo partridge, jungle bush quail, Alectoris partridge, snowcocks and Coturnix warrant classification in their own family, the Gallusinidae.
