WHAT DOES DISCUS MEAN IN ENGLISH?

discus

Discus throw

The discus throw is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than his or her competitors. It is an ancient sport, as evidenced by the fifth-century-B.C. Myron statue, Discobolus. Although not part of the modern pentathlon, it was one of the events of the ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated at least to 708 BC.

Definition of discus in the English dictionary

The first definition of discus in the dictionary is a circular stone or plate used in throwing competitions by the ancient Greeks. Other definition of discus is a similar disc-shaped object with a heavy middle thrown by athletes. Discus is also a South American cichlid fish, Symphysodon discus, that has a compressed coloured body and is a popular aquarium fish.
