WHAT DOES LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Laws of thermodynamics

The four laws of thermodynamics define fundamental physical quantities that characterize thermodynamic systems. The laws describe how these quantities behave under various circumstances, and forbid certain phenomena. The four laws of thermodynamics are: ▪ Zeroth law of thermodynamics: If two systems are in thermal equilibrium with a third system, they must be in thermal equilibrium with each other. This law helps define the notion of temperature. ▪ First law of thermodynamics: Heat is a form of energy. Because energy is conserved, the internal energy of a system changes as heat flows in or out of it. Equivalently, perpetual motion machines of the first kind are impossible. ▪ Second law of thermodynamics: The entropy of any isolated system almost never decreases. Such systems spontaneously evolve towards thermodynamic equilibrium — the state of maximum entropy of the system. Equivalently, perpetual motion machines of the second kind are impossible. ▪ Third law of thermodynamics: The entropy of a system approaches a constant value as the temperature approaches absolute zero.

Definition of law of thermodynamics in the English dictionary

The definition of law of thermodynamics in the dictionary is any of three principles governing the relationships between different forms of energy. The first law of thermodynamics states that the change in the internal energy of a system is equal to the sum of the heat added to the system and the work done on it. The second law of thermodynamics states that heat cannot be transferred from a colder to a hotter body within a system without net changes occurring in other bodies within that system; in any irreversible process, entropy always increases. The third law of thermodynamics states that it is impossible to reduce the temperature of a system to absolute zero in a finite number of steps. Other definition of law of thermodynamics is Also called: zeroth law of thermodynamics. the principle that if two bodies are each in thermal equilibrium with a third body then the first two bodies are in thermal equilibrium with each other.

1
Norman Ralph Augustine
Software is like entropy. It is difficult to grasp, weighs nothing, and obeys the second law of thermodynamics; i.e. it always increases.
2
David Christian
An egg is a beautiful, sophisticated thing that can create even more sophisticated things, such as chickens. And we know in our heart of hearts that the universe does not travel from mush to complexity. In fact, this gut instinct is reflected in one of the most fundamental laws of physics, the second law of thermodynamics, or the law of entropy.
