In Islamic eschatology, the Mahdî is the prophesied redeemer of Islam who will rule for seven, nine or nineteen years before the Day of Judgment and will rid the world of evil. According to Islamic tradition, the Mahdi's tenure will coincide with the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, who is to assist the Mahdi against the Masih ad-Dajjal. Jesus, who is considered the Masih in Islam, will descend at the point of a white arcade, east of Damascus, dressed in yellow robes with his head anointed. He will then join the Mahdi in his war against the Dajjal, where Jesus will slay Dajjal and unite mankind. Sahih Muslim, 41:7023 Sahih al-Bukhari, 3:43:656: Narrated Abu Hurairah: Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until the son of Maryam descends amongst you as a just ruler; he will break the cross, kill the swine, and abolish the Jizya tax. Wealth will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it." Jesus Christ has been foretold to return at near the end of the world. The Qur'an says: “And shall be a Sign the Hour: therefore have no doubt about the, but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way.”...

The definition of Mahdi in the dictionary is the title assumed by Mohammed Ahmed. ?1843–85, Sudanese military leader, who led a revolt against Egypt and captured Khartoum. Other definition of Mahdi is any of a number of Muslim messiahs expected to convert all mankind to Islam.
