WHAT DOES MOLECULE MEAN IN ENGLISH?

molecule

Molecule

A molecule /ˈmɒlɪkjuːl/ is an electrically neutral group of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds. Molecules are distinguished from ions by their lack of electrical charge. However, in quantum physics, organic chemistry, and biochemistry, the term molecule is often used less strictly, also being applied to polyatomic ions. In the kinetic theory of gases, the term molecule is often used for any gaseous particle regardless of its composition. According to this definition, noble gas atoms are considered molecules despite being composed of a single non-bonded atom. A molecule may be homonuclear, that is, it consists of atoms of a single chemical element, as with oxygen; or it may be a chemical compound composed of more than one element, as with water. Atoms and complexes connected by non-covalent bonds such as hydrogen bonds or ionic bonds are generally not considered single molecules. Molecules as components of matter are common in organic substances. They also make up most of the oceans and atmosphere.

Definition of molecule in the English dictionary

The definition of molecule in the dictionary is the simplest unit of a chemical compound that can exist, consisting of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds. Other definition of molecule is a very small particle.

As is known, the sugar molecule as it passes through lactic acid can easily be split by purely chemical means.
2
Francis Crick
It now seems certain that the amino acid sequence of any protein is determined by the sequence of bases in some region of a particular nucleic acid molecule.
3
James Gleick
The body itself is an information processor. Memory resides not just in brains but in every cell. No wonder genetics bloomed along with information theory. DNA is the quintessential information molecule, the most advanced message processor at the cellular level - an alphabet and a code, 6 billion bits to form a human being.
4
Stefan Hell
Calling on each molecule one by one? No way. I just told all of them to be quiet - except for a selected few.
5
Dorothy Hodgkin
The detailed geometry of the coenzyme molecule as a whole is fascinating in its complexity.
6
Albrecht Kossel
The more the relationships of the nitrogen-rich substances to the cell nucleus were recognized, the more the question of the arrangement of the nitrogen and carbon atoms in the molecule came to stand out.
7
Gilbert Newton Lewis
We may say that a basic substance is one which has a lone pair of electrons which may be used to complete the stable group of another atom, and that an acid is one which can employ a lone pair from another molecule in completing the stable group of one of its own atoms.
8
Paul McEuen
Nanotechnology is the idea that we can create devices and machines all the way down to the nanometer scale, which is a billionth of a meter, about half the width of a human DNA molecule.
9
Paul McEuen
Carbon nanotubes are amazing because they're really good electrical conductors, yet they are only a few atoms in diameter. You can make transistors out of them in the same way you can with silicon. At Berkeley, we made the narrowest device anybody had ever made. It was basically a single molecule.
10
Dmitri Mendeleev
The magnitude of the atomic weight determines the character of the element, just as the magnitude of the molecule determines the character of a compound body.
