WHAT DOES NODE OF RANVIER MEAN IN ENGLISH?

node of Ranvier

Node of Ranvier

Myelin sheath gaps, or more commonly known as nodes of Ranvier, are the gaps formed between the myelin sheaths generated by different cells. A myelin sheath is a many-layered coating, largely composed of a fatty substance called myelin, that wraps around the axon of a neuron and very efficiently insulates it. At nodes of Ranvier, the axonal membrane is uninsulated and therefore capable of generating electrical activity.

Definition of node of Ranvier in the English dictionary

The definition of node of Ranvier in the dictionary is any of the gaps that occur at regular intervals along the length of the sheath of a myelinated nerve fibre, at which the axon is exposed.
