WHAT DOES STRIATUM MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Striatum

The striatum', also known as the neostriatum or striate nucleus, is a subcortical part of the forebrain. It receives input from the cerebral cortex and is the primary input to the basal ganglia system. In primates, the striatum is divided by a white matter tract called the internal capsule into two sectors called the caudate nucleus and putamen. The term corpus striatum occasionally refers to the striatum combined with the pallidum, which is a collective term for the dorsal pallidum and the ventral pallidum. The lenticular nucleus refers to the putamen together with the globus pallidus. Functionally, the striatum helps coordinate motivation with body movement. It facilitates and balances motivation with both higher-level and lower-level functions, such as inhibiting one's behavior in a complex social interaction and fine-motor functions of inhibiting small voluntary movement.

Definition of striatum in the English dictionary

The definition of striatum in the dictionary is a striped mass of white and grey matter in the brain which controls movement and balance.
