Superphone

The term describes a category of phones, with a high-end set of features to make them more computer-like, powerful and flexible than basic smartphones. The term was first introduced when Google launched the Nexus One in 2010. It was coined to describe phones that have more capabilities than basic smartphones. It implies high-end functionality beyond that of the basic criterias for a smartphone, large touchscreen and ability to be more tailored to a users needs than just being able to extend a selected set of software. For example changing/improving GUI and installing different Operating Systems on the phone. Criterias for the Superphone category. ▪ HD-resolution 720p or 1080p minimum. Upcoming generations of superphones will likely feature 4K-screens. ▪ Large screen display larger than 4-inch, usually 5-inch or bigger. ▪ Ability to replace systemsoftware and user-interface of the phone using 3rd party software. ▪ Ability to download, install and run arbitrary 3rd party applications, from sources other than the device-maker. ▪ Multicore processor and dedicated 3D-graphics, minimum of 1GHz. ▪ At least 2GB or RAM.
