By extension, it is also possible to designate with this name the place of consumption of this drink and its multiple variants, and of that name there are also many synonyms: cafeteria or bistro, among others. Coffee cultivation is widespread in tropical and subtropical countries. Particular attention is drawn to the case of Brazil, since it accounts for just over one-third of world production. Coffee grains are one of the main products of agricultural origin that are traded in international markets and often makes a large contribution to the export headings of the producing regions. The cultivation of coffee is culturally linked to the history and progress of many countries that have produced it for more than a century. A total of 6.7 million tonnes of coffee were produced annually between 1998 and 2000, and the figure is expected to rise to 7 million tonnes annually in 2010.
