sewn
In Heraldry, the sew is an attempt in the blazon to justify a derogation from the Rule of contrariety of the colors. Technically, a figure which normally "loads" a field or another figure is brought back to the same level of its ex-support and is linked to it by stitching. But if the assertion that a load is "sewn", shows that one is aware of the fact, this does not prevent a possible fault. The authors are far from unanimous in deciding what is acceptable in terms of sewing. According to C.F. Menestrier, only the chief can be "sewn". However, the "sewn" can be excluded in the following cases: ▪ A load passes over several zones, at least one of which is enamel, another metal: the "pin" load and is not at fault.
