Decapitation
Decapitation refers to the separation of head and body. It can occur accidentally, or voluntarily. In this second case, it is usually carried out by means of a "headband". In general, in the case of decapitation carried out by the sword or the ax, the condemned man had first to place his head on a block. Decapitation can also be performed on the body of a dead man. In Christian writings or in a more literary way, one also speaks of "decollation" or even of "detachment".
