Witchcraft
Witchcraft often refers to the practice of a certain form of magic, in which the sorcerer works with the global energies, be it plants, lunar cycles, seasons or even entities. According to cultures, witchcraft was considered with varying degrees of suspicion or even hostility, sometimes with ambivalence. Certain religious doctrines consider all forms of magic as witchcraft, proscribe or place it in the rank of superstition. They oppose the sacredness of their own rituals to the practices of witchcraft. Witchcraft is a controversial term and its history is complex. Depending on the context and cultural environment in which the word is used, it refers to different, if not opposed, ideas. Each society has its own conceptions of tradition, belief, religion, ritual, relationship to the hereafter and death, and good or evil spirits; it is sometimes impossible to find an equivalent from one culture to another. This term is also used pejoratively in reference to the practice of magic.
