Goûter
Tasting, sampling, or "four hours" is a light meal taken at the end of the afternoon. This afternoon snack was called, in the Renaissance, to recite it. This word, which has disappeared from our dictionaries, is still to be found in the Encyclopaedia or Dictionary of the Sciences, Arts and Crafts of Diderot and D'Alembert at the end of the eighteenth century. Tasting is not just for children, but for all those with increased food needs: teenagers, pregnant or breastfeeding women, people who are physically active, and the elderly. It was traditionally made up of a bread toast with butter and jam or with a piece of chocolate or a chocolate bread fifty years ago. Today children take cakes. The consumption of pastries with tea or coffee is widespread in many adults when their occupations leave them leisure.
