Governor
Governor is a title that has designated different functions according to the countries and periods. In general, the governor is the person who has the civil or military executive power, or both, of a province, state or colony. He often answers to a higher authority often the head of state or the government of the country for which he acts. ▪ In a federal state, it governs on behalf of the central government if it is appointed or autonomously if elected. ▪ In a colony, he governs in the name of the state then located in the metropolis, the distance granting him then very broad prerogatives. This title was also given to local representatives of companies which disposes of a citadel, a fortress, or a military region. The title of governor can be attributed to a person running a large institution or a bank often appointed by the State, such as the Banque de France. This title is sometimes given to the President of the European Central Bank.
