Honor
Honor can be defined as a link between a person and a social group that gives him his identity. Honor is gained by actions admired by the community; one is subjected to shame as a result of despised acts. In this sense, honor is a collective attribute, as virtue is an individual attribute. There may be secret virtues; of honor, point. Honor, but above all dishonor and shame, are transmitted to the relatives by contagion. In the same society, there are usually different groups of honor. In criminal groups, not talking to the police is a matter of honor; attending an informer who has reached the status of the person; while in the same city other people have a similar repulsion with regard to the use of violence and consider as morally contaminated a person who practices it, even in a sporting context, such as boxing or rugby. If Boileau notes that a true tricker puts his honor to never keeping his word, it is that the reference value, for those he considers, is the power to manipulate his neighbor; it is this which defines him as deceitful.
