internalization
Internalization is a notion used in sociology and psychology, both of which accept it as the set of processes by which certain elements of the external world are integrated into the mental functioning of the individual, contributing to the organization of structures emotional and cognitive. Sociology insists on the assimilation of social norms which become an integral part of the psychic personality, and are manifested, among others, in the form of habitus. The process, called social control, generally takes place in childhood, notably in education, but can also be observed in occupational groups where mechanisms of internalization of values specific to the profession or the enterprise . The permanence of internalization is a matter of debate. In psychoanalysis the term is sometimes used as a synonym for introjection or identification. It is also used to designate the process of reconstructing interpsychic relationships.
