lexicalization
Lexicalization, a term peculiar to linguistics and particularly to etymology, lexicology and comparative linguistics, is the fact that a new term ─ or an expression ─ gains the status of lemma in a given language, that is to say that its speakers recognize it as a unique, differentiated and autonomous term endowed with a meaning and belonging to the lexicon of their language. Besides isolated terms, syntagmas or periphrases can be lexicalized. In this case, this group of words must constitute a single lemma.
