IRAS
IRAS (Infrared Astronomical Satellite, Illus) is an infrared astronomical satellite jointly planned by NASA in the US, NIVR in the Netherlands, SERC in the UK. It was launched on January 25, 1983 and made 250,000 observations in 10 months. In general, the infrared astronomical satellite needs to cool the observation device to nearly absolute zero. In the case of IRAS, 720 liters of liquid helium was mounted as a coolant, which evaporated to keep the observation device at 1.6 K.
