Egmolt [Aigues - Mortes] Port town in southern France, Girl province. It faces the lagoons of the Rhone River Delta, the Camargue moorland, originating in the castle city built by the 13th century, Louis XV. Although it flourished as a crusade expedition base, sediment accumulated in the canal, lost its function as a port, and gradually declined. There are many medieval historic buildings left.
