Group 16 element
Group 16 element (Daigakurokurokuzoku) is a collective term for elements belonging to Group 16 in the periodic table. Oxygen, sulfur, selenium, tellurium, polonium, and ribamorium are classified into this. It is also called oxygen group element, chalcogen. Sulfur, selenium and tellurium are similar in properties, whereas oxygen is somewhat different in nature, polonium is a radioactive element and is abundant in nature. Sulfur, selenium and tellurium form compounds with metallic elements and are the main components of various ores. Therefore, the elemental family consisting of these three elements was named Greek as a chalcogen meaning "to make stone". Also, three kinds of elements are sometimes called a sulfur group element.
