Genki 【monthly peach】 perennial grass of ginger family. It's about 3 meters high. Early summer, fragrant white flowers bloom. It grows in the mountains of Ogasawara, Okinawa and the Southern Islands, and is cultivated for ornamental purposes. The leaves are used for packaging, the stems are dried and used for fibers such as mats and fishing nets. Seeds are used as stomach medicine as a private medicine. Morning mackerel げっ‐とう【月桃】 ショウガ科の多年草。高さ約3メートル。初夏、芳香のある白色の花が咲く。小笠原・沖縄および南方諸島の山野に生え、観賞用に栽培もされる。生葉は包装に、茎は乾燥してマット・漁網などの繊維に利用される。種子は民間薬として健胃剤に使用。おおくまたけらん。
