Gwell
Gwell is the city of Zimbabwe. Population 137,000 people (2002). Located approximately in the middle of the country, it is the capital of Midlands. It is the third city of Zimbabwe, following the capital city Harare and Bulawayo. Gwell was built by Leander Star Jameson in 1894, became a local government in 1914, and took a municipal system in 1971. In 1982, I changed the city name from Guwello until Gwell. Gwell has a Thornhill Air Force Base, there are tourist facilities such as Zimbabwe Military Museum and Antelope Game Park. In 1928, Mrs. Jean Bogey, a colonist's widow, built a clock tower to commemorate the deceased husband. This bogey clock tower is still a landmark of Gwell. ...
