McMurdo Station "McMurdo Station" The observation base in the US in Ross Island, Antarctica. It is located at the cape of Hat at the southern tip of the island, 77 degrees 51 minutes south, 166 degrees 40 minutes east longitude. Constructed in 1955. There is a runway on the Ross shelf ice, and the Amundsen Scott station in the vicinity of the South Pole is tied by a road about 1,500 kilometers long, snow-covered ice. It has the largest scale in Antarctica as a base set on the rock, with over 1000 people in summer and about 200 people in winter. マクマード‐きち【マクマード基地】 《McMurdo Station》南極、ロス島にある米国の観測基地。南緯77度51分、東経166度40分、同島南端のハット岬に位置する。1955年に建設。ロス棚氷上に滑走路があるほか、南極点付近のアムンゼンスコット基地との間は、氷を圧雪した全長約1500キロメートルの道路で結ばれる。露岩上に設けられた基地としては南極最大の規模を誇り、夏季は1000人以上、冬季も約200人が常駐する。
