Mullite (mullite or marlone) is an aluminosilicate mineral having a single chain structure, that is, a compound of aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide. The chemical formula is represented by 3Al 2 O 3 .2 SiO 2 - 2 Al 2 O 3 .SiO 2, or Al 6 O 13 Si 2. It is named mullite because it produces in Mull island in Scotland. Aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide are very abundant in the earth's crust, but mullite exists little in nature (it is produced in Buckite). In the porcelain it is very commonly produced, and those with mullite as the main constituent are called Mullite porcelain in particular, and are used for crucibles and other chemical products. The crystal structure has cleavage properties in an orthorhombic system, and it is a colorless or pale violet-colored columnar crystal. Some contain Ti and Fe 3 + and have high refractive index.
