Nessebar 【Nesebar / Несебър】 Eastern Bulgaria, facing Black Sea. Originated from ancient Thracian settlement Menebria, ancient Greece colonial city Mesenbria was built in the early 6th century BC and prospered as a base for maritime trade with Apollonia (now Sozopol). It was subsequently ruled by the ancient Roman Empire, the Eastern Roman Empire, renamed its current name during the first Bulgarian empire. It reached its peak in the Second Bulgarian Empire, but it was conquered by the Crusaders and returned to the East Roman Empire. Since then, the Ottoman rule continued, Bulgaria territory from the end of the 19th century. Historical buildings such as St Pantokrator Church and St. Stephen's Church remain in the peninsula protruding into the Black Sea.
